"The days after the Starr Report's release produced the greatest fear inside the White House since the first week of the scandal. A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll showed that 60 percent of the American people believed the president had obstructed justice. Some congressional Democrats were unsteady. Senator Joseph Lieberman had given a speech denouncing Clinton's behavior as 'immoral' and went up to the edge of calling on him to quit."
That's Joe for you.

With Lieberman campaigning by video on some holy days don't think the Republicans won't ask the question (courtesty of Rush probably) over and over of whether or not he can govern effectively and observe his religion. No doubt they will bring up the Sabbath during the recounts and how Lieberman was encouraged by the secret service to ride to Gore's house but Lieberman instead followed his religious guidelines and walked. They will say by doing that he jepordized his own life as well as the secret service and ask, "What if the next 9-11 happens on the Sabbath?" Were Lieberman a stronger candidate on the issues that mattered to me, I would strongly argue each point but his "issues" are more in line with the GOP so don't expect me to toss him some water when the roasting starts.

Jan said: I would indeed equate a leading Democrat with a Republican if he deserved it. Lieberman criticized Gore's campaign theme of "the people vs the powerful". The fact is, all Democrats should be Fair Deal Democrats or they're not bona fide members of the party of the level playing field. Our tent is big, but there must be limits if our party is to mean something. To survive, you have to accept campaign donations from big business, but Joseph Lieberman delivers too. He's never held the kinds of congressional inquiries into corporate cronyism that have distinguished the careers of Gore (Daisy Chain scandal) and Kerry (BCCI drug money scandal). Lieberman seems to think you can be a Democrat because you "like" minorities. Sorry, but your a Democrat only when you support vibrant democracy and capitalism... by ensuring that everyone plays by the same rules.

Admin said: I agree, Joe Liberman is a very intelligent individual, and must be a pretty good Senator if a Liberal state like CT continues to re-elect him. The problem I think a lot of people have is he's not Presidential Material. And definately not the guy to lead the party when we're trying to show a clear difference of opinion between us and the Republicans/Bush.
If willing, Joe Liberman has the intelligence to blast Bush out of the water, the question is whether or not he's willing?

I'm not the one who voted here....
liberalnurse said: I would never equate any leading Democrat to a republican even if we note him or her as lite. No, Joe is not the one either. He's not a bonified up front leader, he is brilliant and articulate but we need a savoy, in your face, bold and confident, cutting edge Democrat. I'm seeing this in Dean and Kerry. We just got to take the risk and find a quaterback like Joe Montanna. (Is he a democrat?).... He or she who does let go and lead will certainly have the masses follow.....I'll be there!!!
