Its been awhile since LiberalArtists.com checked in on Barbra Streisand so were we suprised to find out just how busy she's been. Babs is speaking out on her official website now more than ever. About Iraq, about her right to speak out, and about the failure known as The Bush Presidency!
Below are some exerpts from her latest additions.
From: My Right to Dissent Feb 26th 2003
"To set the record straight, I think Saddam Hussein is a horrific dictator who should disarm. And I believe we should support the men and women who have been put in harmís way. But I do not think war is the answer right now. I believe there are other ways to disarm Saddam that must be explored before we resort to that most serious of options a costly, deadly war. And I am not alone Ė millions of Americans and people around the world feel the same way I do. Are we all traitors?"
From: My Thoughts Today Feb 20th 2003
"The media made it look like Osama bin Laden's most recent statement showed proof of a link between al-Qaeda and Saddam Hussein...ignoring the fact that in the statement, when bin Laden asked the Muslim people to rise up against the United States, he also told the Iraqi people to rise up against Saddam. In bin Laden's statement, he expressed solidarity with the Muslim civilians of Iraq and the Middle East, not with Saddam Hussein."
From: Bush Leaves Children Behind Jan 13th 2003
"It has long been understood that the only way to create a fair society is to give each child an equal chance at success ... The Bush administration understands this rhetoric, and even stole the Children Defense Fund's "Leave No Child Behind" motto for last year's education bill. However, as the Children Defense Fund's website points out, Bush's policies would more appropriately be entitled, "Leave No Millionaire Behind." Bush has done more than any president in our history to ensure that poor children never rise out of poverty."

We desperately need a news media that tells the truth. Bush has shut down the truth being heard. If a news reporter speaks out against Bush he/she is fired immediately. Donahue was a victim of that rule. Others have also been fired for the same reason. We need a tv station that isn't afraid to tell the truth about Bush. Until we do we will be stuck with this president. I think he may be so bold as to not have elections in 2004. Their list of countries to attack is growing. We will not get out of Iraq until we have attacked Syria, Iran and a few other postage stamp size countries before we move on to the big countries including China. We need a way to tell the people what is happening.
War with Iraq
Written on 04/04/03 at 13:53:21 PST by PAC
We don't have solid grounds for this war. Fighting Iraq because they support terrorism, has me wondering why we are so dead set against Iraq while other countries proven to be much more threatening to our national security than Iraq, are left alone. No war has been declared on them. Congress must grant more than a "resolution" to support the current Bush war. Congress has never declared war against Iraq; they have pledged to fight terrorism, but according to our Constitution, the term, "fighting terrorism" is too ambiguous. It's a PhD to the obvious that flag waving patriotism demands that under a true democracy we protest such a war.
Our own CIA could not produce the evidence against Iraq to justify going after Saddam. We have more data on North Korea than we do Iraq. North Korea is a proliferator of nuclear weapons, Iraq is not. This is more of a personal plan of this appointed boy wonder, Bush.
The confused "focus groups" that make up the Bush base is quite interesting. For example, the right wing focus groups who are anti-abortion, and that is their only litmus test as to whether a candidate is fit for public office - can sit at the sidelines silent - when Bakhat Hassan saw his INNOCENT daughter's heads shot off in Karbala, (they were 2 and 5 years old), and not one person protested the ABORTION of those children that are part of the same focus groups that Bush seems to rely on to carry out his agenda and his extremist view of exactly who is in charge of Bible prophecy and how it's interpreted and by whom. The fact is, Neither Pat Robertson nor Bush or Ashcroft speak for God.I am very suspicious of those who like Ashcroft who think's Jesus died to make Ashcroft King!
What is so "Patriotic" about killing children (including a 3 year old son of Hassan), who reported to ABC news, thathis family was allowed to pass at the first checkpoint, but were shot at the second checkpoint under the direction of Bush and Rumsfeld. The sick policy is being implemented by a resident we did not elect. His little focus groups are sitting like a dog with his tail between it's legs when children are aborted by war in a manner much more brutal than any early abortion or partial birth abortion that they claim is their reason for supporting only King George because he's supposed to be PRO-LIFE.
Good, civilized and well educated and well INFORMED un-degreed people can see that it is a PhD to the obvious that Mr. Bush is in no way a supporter of LIFE, LIBERTY or DEMOCRACY.
On a different note, GOP thinks police and Firefighters should work overtime without pay. It won't be long and the rest of us are going to start working for no compensation to make a decent living as well! they cite, "NATIONAL SECURITY" as their battlecry to justify those labeled as employed who respond to matters of "national security" will be governed and their salaries controlled by Bush. He wants the power to force you to work for free! If Bush can succeed in getting all of our jobs reclassified as responders to the "national security".....whala! Corporate execs can get out of paying the worker while the Bush execs ride high at places like Halliburton!
Spelling and respectful of opinions

I enjoy Barbra Streisand's music and movies. She is a wonderful entertainer. I respect her right to her beliefs and her right to share those beliefs. I don't agree with all of her opinions. As far as the control of the media goes, people should check to see who actually owns the news reporting agencies before they make uneducated assumptions. There is no such thing as the Liberal Media anymore!

The recent bashing of entertainers who speak out against the war is pretty un-American as far as I am concerned. Why should Barbra Streisand's opinion mean any less than some of those political pundits on television. Streisand is intelligent enough to educate herself on the issues before she speaks which is more than I can say for some of the right-wing radio and television "personalities" who make crap up just to fit their political agenda. For those of us whose voices aren't being heard - I say keep on speaking out Barbra, Michael Moore, Natalie Maines, Susan Sarandon, etc...

First off, I support and agree with Barbra. Second of all, John makes a good point in his "Entertainer's Opinions" post that I would like to add a little something to. What is Bill O'Lielly? He's not a journalist. The Florida Senator now on MSNBC is now an enterainer. All of the right wing radio and TV hosts seem to think they are something other than they are. They're entertainers and they have no problem with speaking out but they slam someone like Streisand as a mere entertainer. On The Ticket (Dallas radio sports station) there are these jerks named Dan & Bob with a show. Each day is a new slam against entertainers. (This week Michael Moore.) Over and over slamming entertainers for speaking out and what are Dan & Bob? It's hypocritical. If you watch the History Channel you might want to drop a line to them if you object to the host of Mail Call R. Lee Ermey going on Dan & Bob's show and trashing Streisand, Sarandon ("scumbag") and sharing his pacifist view on Michael Moore ("If I ever see him I'll punch him in his big fat nose!"). All of which was met with great amusement and approval by Dan & Bob. What any of this has to do with sports is a good question. But a better question is why these people are allowed to criticize "entertainers" for speaking out when they are themselves entertainers. (I doubt a journalist, for instance, would tell listeners this week that it was Katharine Hepburn's birthday and then quickly ask, "Is she still alive?" No, a journalist would know the answer to that question before s/he spoke.) (And the answer is yes, she is.)
