The Dixie Chicks have expressed some concern for their personal safety since singer Natalie Maines uttered the now infamous anti-Bush statement. Rightwing loonies from across the nation have called for everything from burning Dixie Chicks CD's to Vandalizing they're property.
"We've gotten a lot of hate mail, a lot of threatening mail," Martie Maguire told reporters in Australia. "Emily (Robison) had the front gate of her ranch smashed in. We have to have security when we get back to the States. It puts my well-being in jeopardy."
Maines, however, isn't backing down "The more flack I get for it, the prouder I am." She was also quick to point out that in her hometown of Lubbock, Texas, "only six people showed up," for a public Chicks CD-smashing protest.
Despite the dip in sales due to the rightwing boycott, the group remains the top-selling country act, with their album Home firmly entrenched in the Number One spot on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.

I'm glad Natalie said what she said, and I'm also glad she's not backing down. This country was founded on free speech, and I think it's horrible that "right wing rednecks" are trying to destroy the Dixie Chicks by doing such silly things as burning their CDs (adding to pollutants in the air I might add) and boycotting them from the radio. I hope they stay true to what they believe in and that they don't let this kind of childish behavior ruin their view of the fans that truly support them.

I`m are one of those Right Wing Redneck Nuts. I`m am a Georgetown undergraduate, University of Misseri School of Journalism post graduate, that believes that one doesn`t disrespect their President on foreine soil (even if it was the soil of an allie). So for the same reason you cant understand why we are so up in arms at what she said, we are just as amazed that The Anti-War People don`t see that you can never bad mouth our President during time of war, that is not disent, it`s aideing and comferting the enemy. So just as you, because of our great country`s laws have the right to voice disent against our President and the war, we Right Wing Rednecks have that same right to point out that it isn`t us that are the slack jawed droling fools on this issue, it`s yous! We have everyright voice our discontint with Miss Mains, in any way that is legal. Miss Maines if she had been sincere in her apology would have ended the firestorm quickly, because if we is nothing, we Rednecks is a forgivin lot, but instead she replied with a shadeded and targited apology and was so insincere as to be laughedle. And apology that in the end was none apology at all, and it still seems that Miss Maines is not truly sorry for the damage she has caused to her country and her state. For that, she and The Chicks will pay in financial loss of revenue. It`s just that simple, and lest she wants to open her fat mouth again, let her remember we Red necks have very long memories attached to those napes. If she makes another dumb statement, The Chicks can kiss their ass goodbye, im gonna kill 'em all. if she says and means she`s sorry, we will forgive her still, as we are the most tolerant of the 2 groups I am waxing on about. Why can`t you see that that was all Bill Clinton had to do was sincerely and honestly apologize, and he could have become one of our most important Presidents of all time. So wake up Lefties, it`s you that ares not PC or relevent anymore.

Ever notice that Right Wingers have the most to say (above) but say the least. The Chicks CD Home is #1 on the country Bill Board chart this week. Only with Repuglicans it is un-American to be ashamed of Bush. How dare Maines think she lives in a free country. LOL

I am a Vietnam War vet and served 2 tours. Maines has every right to criticize the President. That is what America is about. It is time for the "Red Neck contingent" to understand if you don't like dissent..move to a country with a dictatorship..or wait long enough and we'll have one here. The right needs to take reality pills and stuff it.

Use to be a "Chicks" fan. Now all my "Chicks" music is in file 13! No country radio station in the Lubbock area is playing the "Chicks" music anymore. We are listening to Toby Keith! If you cant agree with me then you must be wrong and i'm not going to let you talk.

Maines aunt is a TV News Anchor in Luboock. Haven't heard her making any public statement in support of her neice. Now there is the truth. Her own family is not even making statements of public support.

To Maines, keep speaking out against the policy of Bush. You have more courage than the Craig's of this world. For Craig. You claim to be a journalist. Have you investigated what the oil companies and the Taliban talked about when they visited Texas when Bush was governor? Or what the Bush envoy did in early 2001 when they went to Afghanistan about the pipe line? Why has the treaty for the pipeline been the only advancement made in Afghanistan, no roads, schools, etc. Why is Britan being left out of contracts to rebuild Iraq, and only Haliburtan is getting them? Why does 9 on the Pentagon think tank, of Pearle, etc have ties to those company getting military contracts? To the right wing, we know your tactics. first you vilify the person that speaks out against you than you hound them.Your intimidation won't work any more. All American's are patriotic, not just the republicans. All american's care about our troops, but will question out policies, because that is what democracy is about. That is what our Constituion and Bill of Rights is about. We the people are democracy. for a journalist, you are not very courious. Read the Hunting of the President. Ask questions and ask more questions. Advice from this Vietnam era veteran.
Way to go - Stick with it

Thanks for your commments. More importantly thanks for not recanting.
I am not really a country music fan but will be purchasing an album or two just because you had the balls to say what so many are thinking. If ever in Montana (yah right) I would love to shake your hand.
Hey I like that...

Never criticize a President in time of war. Unless its Clinton right? Typical rightwing Hypocracy. We are in a never ending state of war with this President. Waiting until the battle is over is NOT an option or a possibility.
As Trent Lott once said "You can support the troops without supporting the President."
I support Natalie Maines

I even support Craig. Us lefties are getting awfully tired of being told to shut up when we dissent. Natalie Maines has just as much right to speak her mind about Bush as Craig does about Clinton. I find it rather odd that Toby Keith said Maines should shut her big mouth. He's just jealous because they are talented and and still at #1 and he's a REDNECK with no talent!
I Support Maines
